Union des Banques Maghrébines Goals

The Union of Maghreb Banks (UBM) was established on December 7, 1990, at the initiative of the Presidents of the Banks from the five Maghreb countries: Tunisia, Algeria, Libya, Morocco, and Mauritania.

Its activities align with the objectives set by the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU). Its main missions are to strengthen regional cooperation and banking and financial integration through:

  • Studying issues related to banking and financial activities and making recommendations to regulatory authorities;

  • Harmonizing the legal and organizational framework of banking and financial activities;

  • Promoting and strengthening professional relations with regional and international banking and financial institutions.

UBM’s concrete actions aim to:

  • Promote and develop investment and the free movement of goods and capital among Maghreb countries;

  • Develop shared services for Maghreb banks and financial institutions;

  • Organize training and professional development programs for Maghreb banking personnel;

  • Standardize and Arabize banking technical terminology.
